As many of you know already, over these next few days I will be profiling some of the international free agents that figure to have an impact on the MLB in the next year or so. These guys are some of the best international players from all sorts of different places that are thinking about making the jump to Major League Baseball. Some of these guys you may have heard of, and others maybe not. There will be many different types of players that I will be looking at, but they all have one thing in common, they are the best of the rest throughout the world.
Yozzen Cuesta, sometimes referred to as Jozzen, is a Cuban first beaseman who recently defected and intends to sign with a MLB team in the near future. He has not yet been cleared by OFAC, so he can't sign quite yet, but he should be cleared soon. Cuesta is 22 years old and would be subject to international bonus pool allotments if he were to sign in the MLB this spring. Although it is not clear when his birthdate is, if he were to turn 23 before signing a contract with an MLB team, those restrictions would be lifted and he would become an unrestricted free agent. Cuesta is know to have a good bat with above average power, but it is most likely not MLB ready yet and could use a little time in the minors. His defense looks to be below average at first base and he could be a fit for an AL team at the DH position.
