1. Houston selected Patrick Schuster from the Diamondbacks with the first overall pick and then shipped him to San Diego to complete the Anthony Bass trade. Schuster hasn't yet pitched above A+ ball, but pitched very well there last year in a hitter friendly league. He will most likely be their lefty reliever this year, but not sure this would be my selection to stick on a major league team. Just to inexperienced and unproven.
3. The White Sox selected catcher Adrian Nieto from the Nationals. Nieto will be my best guess to stick for the entire year considering just how short the White So are on catching. Nieto is solid on defense, but is ok at best with his bat. He has not yet played above class A, but with the lack of catching on the White Sox combined with the less than stellar team, Nieto has a chance to stick.
4. The Phillies selected pitcher Kevin Munson from the Diamondbacks. This pick for the Phillies from the Cubs as compensation for Lendy Castillo who the Cubs selected in last year's draft. Munson has a good fastball and an above average slider, making him a good bet to stick in the Phillies bullpen.
8. The Rockies selected pitcher Tommy Kahnle from the Yankees. Kahnle is a power pitcher who hasn't yet been able to find his control. He has huge strikeout numbers in the minors, but those go along with also huge walk numbers. If the Rockies can tighten up his control, he can be a good member of their bullpen moving forward.
9. The Blue Jays selected pitcher Brian Moran from the Mariners and then traded him to the Angels for international signing money. Moran went through the rule 5 draft just last year and remained unpicked, but this year was a different story. Moran is a lefty specialist who is lights out against left handed hitters, but get hit hard against righties.
10. The Mets selected pitcher Seth Rosin from the Phillies and then traded him to the Dodgers for a PTBNL. Rosin is a minor league starter who has had more success in the minors as a reliever. It will be tough for Rosin to stick with the Dodgers for the entire year, but it might be more likely if he is used out of the bullpen.
11. The Brewers selected pitcher Wei-Chung Wang from the Pirates. Has good stuff but hasn't pitched above single A. Has a plus curveball as well as fastball, but doesn't have much professional experience at all.
15. The Diamondbacks selected pitcher Marcos Mateo from the Cubs. Mateo, 29, pitched in the majors back in 2011, but missed big chunks of the last two years due to injury. The reason he was selected here was due to the fact that he has been a revelation in this winter's Dominican League. He has racked up 22 strikeouts and a 0.98 ERA in 19 innings of work there.
16. The Orioles selected third baseman Michael Almanzar from the Red Sox. This selection is most likely Manny Machado insurance in the case that he can't be ready to play this upcoming season. Almanzar is a powerful guy with some plate discipline issues. He has moved slowly through the minors and is very limited on defense. The plus power can't be overlooked though. Might have trouble adjusting to major league pitching.
