Mike Pelfrey and the Minnesota Twins have agreed on a two year, $11 million deal that could include up to $3.5 million in bonuses. Pelfrey, who underwent tommy john surgery in 2012, came back last year to post a 5.19 ERA over 152 2/3 innings pitched last year. Pelfrey doesn't strike out many judging by his career K/9 rate of 5.2, and he also does walk some with a BB/9 of 3.2. He is also a very slow working pitcher, often taking his sweet time on the mound in between pitches, which could have a negative impact on the defense behind him. Pelfrey is still only 29 years old and being another year removed from the surgery will also improve his chances of pitching better, but paying $11 million for a guy with a history of arm troubles who also had a 5.19 ERA last year wouldn't be my way of improving a last place pitching rotation. Pelfrey will join the likes of Kevin Correia as well as new additions Phil Hughes and Ricky Nolasco in the Twins rotation for 2014.
