As many of you know already, over these next few days I will be profiling some of the international free agents that figure to have an impact on the MLB in the next year or so. These guys are some of the best international players from all sorts of different places that are thinking about making the jump to Major League Baseball. Some of these guys you may have heard of, and others maybe not. There will be many different types of players that I will be looking at, but they all have one thing in common, they are the best of the rest throughout the world.
Rogelio Armenteros, 18, is a right handed pitcher who recently defected from Cuba. He is expected to become a MLB free agent at some point this winter or spring and would be subject to international bonus money regulations because he is under the age of 23. In 2011-2012 in Cuba he played for Equipo Industriales in the Serie Nacional, but only pitched 13 1/3 innings. During the summer of 2012, Armenteros defected from Cuba and has been training in Barcelona as well as in Miami. Armenteros has a few different pitches but everything he throws stems off of his fastball. His fastball usually sits low 90s and he has both a four-seam and a two-seam. He also throws a slider, a curveball, and a change-up. He will most likely start in the low minors for the team that signs him and then work his way up from there.
